La Rinascente Milano, Italia

La Rinascente is an Italian chain of high-class department stores selling fashionable clothes, designer furniture and household and garden products. It was established after the First World War in Milan. Its name, meaning “rebirth“, was conceived by the Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. La Rinascente symbolized Italy’s post-war renaissance and was one of the first Italian companies with a uniform appearance, the immagine coordinata. In 1950, Max Huber designed the company’s corporate logo, lR, and a uniform typeface, Futura Bold. He also established a concept for all the company’s visual communication, from advertisements to window displays, price tags and packaging. Another Swiss graphic designer, Lora Lamm, worked for La Rinascente in the 1950s and realised her remarkable creative visions in her poster work.
