About this poster

Augusto Giacometti’s red umbrella poster, created in 1924 for the Rhaetian Railways by the “father of colour abstraction” in Swiss painting, is one of the best, most cheerful and most beautiful posters ever designed for the Rhaetian Railways. Giacometti applied the experiences of his artistic experiments to tourism psychology: with his red umbrella, he created an exuberantly colourful focal point, sheltering beneath it the beautiful landscapes awaiting the visitor. Thus, he evoked the feeling of expectant longing that is associated with a trip to the sunlit mountain heights.
