About this poster

The Furka-Oberalp Railway connects the Swiss cantons of the Grisons, Uri and Valais via the Furka Pass and the Oberalp Pass. Construction began in 1911 and the first half of the line was opened in 1914. After construction was interrupted around the First World War, the line was finally completed and opened in summer 1926. To announce this event, the Ticino graphic designer Daniele Buzzi created this impressive stone lithograph poster featuring a beautiful image of the Grengiols Viaduct, which was built in 1913 and crosses the Rhone River near Brig. At 96 metres, it is the highest bridge on the Furka-Oberalp line.
