Persil - Henkel Basel, CH

Persil celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007. Doing the laundry – once one of the toughest household chores – was greatly facilitated when the first self-acting laundry detergent, Persil, was invented. Persil went unconventional ways when it came to advertising: in the early 20th century, gentlemen were sent strolling through Berlin with Persil parasols. Advertisements also took the form of skywriting or were projected onto clouds at night. In 1924, Persil presented its first silent film and soon afterward its first radio advertisement. The legendary “White Lady” (Weisse Dame) in Persil advertisements became a German cult figure.
