This graphically rigorous and clear poster by Hans Hartmann advertised the Swiss Federal Railway (SBB) system as "the main artery of the economy." With the steel track and cargo wagon wheel it symbolised the solidity of the SBB in order to strengthen confidence in cargo transport by rail.

Hans Hartmann (1913-1991) was born in the canton of Aargau but later established himself in Berne. One of his specialties was designing logos for companies and institutions, including the SBB, for which he designed the logo combining a Swiss cross with two arrows.
