About this poster
Hugo Laubi adapted his poster style to the type of object he was advertising. He created a noble ambiance for luxury hotels, employed dynamic designs for sports events and matter-of-fact declarations for product posters, and used humour for political posters and to advertise venues such as the Café Odeon. Besides his technical skills in lithography, Laubi’s strengths in his poster works were stylistic versatility and a keen eye for the essential message.

Hugo Laubi was born in 1888 in Zurich, where he worked as an illustrator, painter and graphic artist until he died in 1959. He studied in Munich and Paris and worked as a graphic artist in London in 1911. In 1918 he became the director of the printing and lithography company Gebr.
