About this poster

Burkhard Mangold was one of the pioneers of Swiss poster art and was strongly influenced by Art Nouveau. Like all Mangold’s posters, this advertisement for a roller-skating rink in the pavilion of the Zurich Tonhalle was lithographed at the Wolfensberger printing house. With the gentleman in the foreground depicted in mid-swing and the elegant, mosaic-like combination of different patterns, this poster has an energetic yet sophisticated quality that suits the subject. This stone lithograph is unique in terms of colouring, atmosphere and quality and is one of the first-class rarities of poster art.
