About this poster

The Rhaetian Railways is the highest north-south rail crossing in the Alps cuts through canton Grisons from Thusis up the Albula Valley, through the Engadine, over the Bernina Pass and down Val Poschiavo to Tirano in Italy. The route is a masterpiece of railway engineering that fits remarkably into the romantically rugged terrain, and is an excellent choice for the UNESCO list, which is designed to protect and conservate exceptional natural phenomena and cultural achievements (Swiss Magazine, Hot Spots in Switzerland, June 2013). A magnificant vintage poster by Emil Cardinaux, the Swiss master of travel poster, for the railway company of the Canton of Graubunden with a view of Lake sils and the Engadine. The poster beautifully demonstrates the magnificent richness of the Swiss landscape of the St. Moritz region with the snow capped Piz la Margna in the background.
