The American free jazz saxophonists, the David Murray Quartet, performed at the 1983 Jazz Festival. The idiosyncratic creative original poster was designed by the festival's initiator and organiser, Niklaus Troxler.

Niklaus Toxler, born 1947, lives and works in Willisau, Lucerne.
He was trained in typography and graphic design at the art school in Lucerne; from 1967 to 1971 he worked as an art director in Paris; in 1973 he opened his studio for graphic design in Willisau, where he mainly works for cultural and music events, like the Willisau Jazz Festival, which he founded.
