The legendary Zurich Jazz Festival was a popular event for all jazz fans in the 1980s. The posters, which were mostly designed by well-known artists, are now considered to be collector’s items. This brilliant design for the 1980 edition of the festival was done by the famous Alsatian illustrator Tomi Ungerer.

Jean-Thomas “Tomi” Ungerer (1931 – 2019) was a French graphic artist, writer and illustrator of picture books for children and adults. Ungerer saw himself as Alsatian and a convinced European, but remained a sceptic towards European bureaucracy. From 1976 onwards, he lived alternately in the southwest of Ireland and in his home town of Strasbourg.
