About this poster

Here, to emphasize the dignified atmosphere of the famous Zurich hotel St. Gotthard, Baumberger puts a still life of fine cuisine into a tasteful gold frame. By the standards of 1915 or 2009, it's still one of the best image-building posters any establishment could hope for. A native of Zurich, Baumberger regarded himself primarily as a painter, creating posters merely to generate some income. Nonetheless, he produced a magnificent body of more than 200 posters, distinguished not by a style, but by stylistic diversity as each perfectly suited to the clients' needs.
