About this poster

A typical example of Armin Hoffmann's ‘Swiss Style’ is the original poster for the exhibition by Mark Rothko and Eduardo Chullida at the Kunsthalle Basel in 1962, which is characterised by its simple and graphically informal design. Hofmann designed outstanding posters in the 1950s and 1960s, taught at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule Basel from 1946 to 1986 and, together with his colleagues, contributed to the development of the Swiss International Style. He is known for his black and white designs and for his ability to convey a message with the simplest of forms.
