The DOXA watchmaking company was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun in the town of Le Locle in the Swiss Jura. The company’s watches soon gained a reputation for value, quality and exceptional workmanship. The DOXA pocket watch won medals at the World’s Fair in Liège, Belgium in 1905 and in Milan in 1906. In 1908 Ducommun filed a patent for the “8-Day DOXA Caliber”, which became an industry standard and was included in the instrument panels of many automotive brands, ships and aeroplanes. In the 1960s, DOXA developed a professional-grade watch for divers. In 1997, the Jenny family acquired DOXA and moved its headquarters to Biel/Bienne.
