Jean Colin
Jean Colin was born in Paris in 1912 and was married to Simone Barbot. After completing military service, he began to work for Raymond Gid, especially in the areas of advertisement, book design and political propaganda. He took part in various exhibitions such as the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs of 1947. In 1949 he travelled to Basel and met Fritz Bühler, Donald Brun and Hermann Eidenbenz. In 1951 Colin, Brun and Bühler together with Jacques Nathan Garamond and Jean Picart Le Doux had the idea of forming an association for graphic designers, which led to the founding of the Alliance Graphique Internationale in Paris in 1952 with 65 members.
Until 1960, Colin travelled around Europe and the USA and received numerous awards for his work.
Jean Colin designed over 300 posters, which were often humorous and featured harmonious colouring. Among the brands he created advertising for were Cinzano, Marchal, Shell, Perrier, Contrexéville and EDF.
