With few forms and clear lines, Armin Hofmann summarises the theme of 3000 years of amphitheatre and theatre architecture in this extraordinary poster: a brilliant poster for the exhibition in Basel and a typical example of the so-called ‘Swiss style’. The Basel designer and former teacher at the Basel School of Design was one of the founders of the Swiss graphic style and was known for his formally unique black and white posters, whose message he skilfully reduced to a minimum.

Between 1937 and 1939, he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich and was trained as a lithographer until 1943.
From 1943 until 1948 Hofmann worked as lithographer in Basel and Berne and in his own graphic design studio.
