Armin Hofmann designed brilliant posters in the 1950s and 1960s, taught at the Basel School of Design from 1946 to 1986 and with his colleagues contributed to the development of the Swiss International Style. Hofmann is well known for his use of black-and-white images and for his skill in conveying a message with the simplest of forms.

Between 1937 and 1939, he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich and was trained as a lithographer until 1943.
