The designer Pierre Gauchat was a realist who strove for immediate effect and understanding in advertising messages. He created many wonderfully objective posters that corresponded to his need for simplicity and tidiness. One example of this is his advertisement for the telephone number 14, which had to be dialled to make calls abroad. This is an original vintage poster from 1948.

Pierre GAUCHAT was born in Zurich in 1902 and died in Cairo in 1956.
He studied graphic design under Ernst Keller at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts and later in Munich. After learning about printing techniques during an internship at Orell Füssli, he started his own studio in Zurich in 1922 and taught graphic design from 1926 to 1945.
