About this poster

A very rare and remarkable object poster for Swiss Railways by the famous Basel poster designer Peter Birkhauser - a masterpiece in a hyper-realistic style. This image perfectly captures Birkhauser’s passion for precision in graphic style, brilliant colours, richness of textures and airbrushing technique. He created quite a few magnificent object posters which were mainly produced using the technique of lithograph. It is quite a task to find better advertising than the "object posters" created in Basel in the 1940s and 1950s by Niklaus Stoecklin, Peter Birkhauser and later by Herbert Leupin. These delightful posters were suited to promote a unique selling proposition with a message which could be understood by all Swiss, in a country with four national languages.
