About this poster

This original poster advertising washing soda from the Steinfels soap company in Zurich shows a woman wearing the traditional costume of Berne, probably the most famous and recognizable of the Swiss traditional costumes. Surely she uses the Steinfels product to keep her blouse gleaming white! Hugo Laubi was an incredibly prolific poster designer who shaped countless campaigns in travel, product and political advertising throught the first half of the 20th century.

Hugo Laubi was born in 1888 in Zurich, where he worked as an illustrator, painter and graphic artist until he died in 1959. He studied in Munich and Paris and worked as a graphic artist in London in 1911. In 1918 he became the director of the printing and lithography company Gebr.
