About this poster
Edouard Stiefel was a lithographer, painter and graphic design teacher at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts. This 1920 poster for the glamorous tourist resort in the Engadine is one of the most beautiful and rare poster lithographs for St. Moritz. The scene suggests persuasively that St. Moritz has much to offer as a destination not just for winter holidays but also for summer holidays. The elegant pair of guests gazes out at the magical Upper Engadine lake landscape (lakes St. Moritz, Champère and Silvaplana). Piz de la Margna thrones in the background. This mountain owes its nickname “guardian of the Upper Engadine” to its majestic appearance at the southwestern end of the valley.
