About this poster
The former St. Gallen Cantonal Gymnastics Association was founded in 1867 and regularly held cantonal gymnastics festivals, which became increasingly popular. The association was reserved for men - a separate women's association was founded in 1922. The two clubs merged in 1988 to form the current St. Gallen Gymnastics Association. This is a rare original poster advertising the cantonal gymnastics festival in Altstätten in 1914. The muscular gymnast epitomises the male beauty ideal.
