About this poster
This unique original poster is a fascinating document from the history of Italian passenger shipping. The ‘Navigazione Generale Italiana’, which was formed in 1881 from the merger of the Flotte Riunite Florio from Palermo and the Compagnia Rubattino from Genoa, used it to advertise its services all over the world. The depiction of a nocturnal scene with a very dark colour palette, which is both dramatic and romantic, is unusual.
