About this poster

The Swiss designers of the 1950s and 1960s were noticed abroad through a recognizable new graphic style, the “Swiss Style”. Among them was Josef Müller-Brockmann, who achieved international recognition with his spectacular precision and clarity. His outstanding poster series for the Zurich Tonhalle and the Zurich opera is considered to be a typographic masterpiece in the history of Swiss graphic design. Müller-Brockmann defended his constructivist views vehemently and condemned the use of too many different typefaces or too much spacing in typography. He postulated that posters of the new Swiss style should astonish viewers through formal beauty.
