About this poster
Exceptional original poster for the Jungfrau Railway in the Bernese Oberland. The magnificent colour lithograph from 1946 shows sledge dogs with a group of winter sport guests. The snow-covered mountain range of the Bernese Alps can be seen in the background. The builders of the Jungfrau Railway brought sledge dogs to Switzerland for the first time in 1913: they had heard about the strong and cold-resistant dogs during the North and South Pole expeditions and imported twelve sledge dogs (Samoyeds and Greenland dogs) to be used for transporting food and mail for the construction workers on the Eiger Glacier. Later, these dogs were used as a tourist attraction and for sledge rides on the Jungfraujoch, as this poster shows. This original vintage poster featuring Italian text is in perfect A condition.
