Cecil Percival Taylor (1929 - 2018) was an American pianist and poet. Taylor was classically trained and was one of the pioneers of free jazz. His music is characterised by an energetic, physical approach that led to complex improvisations.

He was trained in typography and graphic design at the art school in Lucerne; from 1967 to 1971 he worked as an art director in Paris; in 1973 he opened his studio for graphic design in Willisau, where he mainly works for cultural and music events, like the Willisau Jazz Festival, which he founded.
