About this poster

Arthur Murray Blythe, born in Los Angeles in 1940, was an American jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger. Blythe, who counted Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Harold Land and Eric Dolphy among his musical idols, as well as Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk as composers, said in an interview: "I am not just avant-garde. I like to play all types of music as much as I can play, straight-ahead or whatever they call that. I like rhythm and blues.... Niklaus Troxler created a special „straight-ahead" poster for the Arthur Blythe Quintet's Willisau jazz concert in 1982.
