About this poster

Alois Carigiet created a brilliant design to promote summer tourism in the Engadine in his home canton of the Grisons: an ice pick and walking stick are propped against a fountain and a little posy of pretty Alpine flowers lies on the edge of the trough. These items suggest the unseen presence of thirsty hikers taking a break to drink from the cool, fresh glacier water, whose surface reflects the blue sky and a snow-capped mountain. Closer inspection of the fountain reveals a carving of the Grisons’ heraldic animal, an Alpine ibex.
