The 1954 World Cup finals were the fifth edition of the most important tournament for national football teams, which took place in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July 1954, and the first to be officially called the World Cup. For the first time, the matches were broadcast directly on television and about 90 million people watched them in front of about four million black-and-white TV sets.
