In 1927 the owner of the spa hotel in Elm (Glarus) invented Elmer Citro by adding lemon flavouring to the local spring water. Elmer Citro became popular throughout Switzerland and is one of the country’s most iconic softdrinks today. This poster from 1940 by the renowned graphic designer Carl Franz Moos shows Saint Fridolin from the Glarus flag catching fresh spring water in a cup. This inventive logo can be found on Elmer Citro labels to this day.

Carl Franz Moos was born in Munich in 1878 and died in Zurich in 1959. He worked as a painter, graphic designer and stage designer.
