About this poster
This charming and extremely rare vintage poster by Emil Cardinaux was made for the former Villars chocolate company in Fribourg, Switzerland and depicts a scene from a popular fable. The humorous approach using traditional techniques was an instant success in advertising, making the product approachable and a delight to look at.

Emil CARDINAUX (1877 Bern 1936) Towards the end of the 19th century, the Swiss art scene underwent thorough transformation. The central figure in this development was the painter Ferdinand Hodler. He was the first among Swiss artists who dared to radically be himself.
