About this poster

For this poster for the 1979 Cannes Film Festival, Jean Michel Folon used the same hat-wearing figure that he used for the French TV channel Antenne 2 and a complex twelve-colour background gradient, which he obsessively monitored until he had printed it to his satisfaction. In his naïve, surrealistic style, he transforms the hat into a cinema screen with a ‘third eye’.
