About this poster

The idea for BIC advertising originated in 1962 at Advico (Ad-vertising Vi-ctor Co-hen, then one of the largest advertising agencies in Switzerland. Cohen's formula was ‘Simplify - Objectify - Humanise’ and he was considered a supporter of his employees. He allowed the graphic designers to contribute their own ideas, for example Ruedi Külling, who designed a commercial for BIC in which a biro scribbles the logo. This TV advert was awarded gold in Cannes in 1967. Hardly any other advertising poster from the 1960s has been mentioned and illustrated as often in poster books and shown at poster exhibitions as the legendary advertising motif for the BIC ballpens by Ruedi Külling. The four-colour BIC poster from 1962 is sought after by collectors internationally today.
