About this poster

Hans Thöni designed well-known travel posters for winter resorts in the 1930s and the famous poster ‘Der Kluge reist im Zuge’ (‘The clever one travels by train’) for the Swiss Federal Railways in 1958. This original poster for the city of Bern shows the Bernese Minster, a Reformed cathedral in the old city of Bern with the highest church spire in Switzerland. Colourful and skilfully arranged lithograph from 1936 in perfect A-grade condition. Text in French.

Hans Thoni studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich (School of Applied Arts) and was trained for four years in Paris before settling in Berne. He was an illustrator and a postage stamp, poster and exhibition designer and a founding member of the VSG (Verband Schweizer Grafiker).
