About this poster

Another leading figure in Swiss design was Armin Hofmann, who was characterised by his use of basic graphic elements such as the dot, line and shape: he managed to embody both simplicity and complexity in his designs. Hofmann is famous for his brilliant poster designs in the 1950s and 1960s. He used colour and type particularly sparingly and is known for his use of black and white imagery and his ability to convey a message with the simplest of forms. Another example of the so-called ‘Swiss style’ is Hofmann's original poster, which he created for the exhibition ‘Die gute Form’ at the Gewerbemuseum Basel in 1952.
