In 1986, Ticino architect Mario Botta won the competition to design a bank building for what was then the Union Bank of Switzerland on Aeschenplatz in Basel. The building was completed in 1995 after six years of construction. In 1998, the Union Bank of Switzerland merged with the Swiss Bank Corporation to form what is now UBS. UBS subsequently moved out of the building and sold it to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Original poster by Werner Jeker.
