About this poster

A typical example of Armin Hoffmann's ‘Swiss Style’ is the exhibition poster designed for a joint exhibition with Serge Poliakoff and Robert Jacobsen in 1956, in which the design appears impressively simple and graphically informal. Hofmann designed outstanding posters in the 1950s and 1960s, taught at the Basel School of Design (Allgemeine Gewerbeschule) from 1946 to 1986 and, together with his colleagues, contributed to the development of the Swiss International Style. He is known for his black and white designs and for his ability to convey a message with the simplest of forms.
