Object Poster (Sachplakat)

In the early years of the 20th century, product advertising was revolutionised by the “object poster” (Sachplakat), which focused solely on the product and the brand name. Prominent Swiss designers of object posters were Otto Baumberger and artists of the Basel school such as Niklaus Stoecklin, Donald Brun, Herbert Leupin and Peter Birkhäuser. The apex of the object poster was reached in the Swiss advertising design of the 1940s and 1950s. With its simple and effective designs, rendered with clear typography and bright colours in the highest print quality, the object poster represents the last golden age of the poster lithograph, which was later replaced by the offset print.
