Sils, Engadin / Graubünden - Grisons, CH

The town of Sils Maria lies between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana in the Upper Engadine in the canton of Graubünden. Tourism in the little farmer’s village began in the second half of the 19th century. Until the 1960s, tourists came mainly in the summer. Then, when cross-country skiing came into fashion, Sils Maria became a ski resort as well. Compared with other towns in the Upper Engadine, Sils has survived mass tourism well and an excessive building boom was prevented. In this way, Sils has fortunately been able to maintain its romantic side.
