Elmer Citro is a famous Swiss lemon-flavoured soft drink. It was created by Oskar Schärli in 1927 with mineral water from alpine springs near Elm in the canton of Glarus. The natural essence that gives Elmer Citro its lemon flavour is taken from the oil in lemon peel, and the recipe is still the same today as it was in 1927. When the market share of soft drinks declined in Switzerland, Mineralquellen Elm AG launched a pure mineral water named Fontessa Elm in 1973. In 2002 it was renamed Elmer Mineralwasser.
