Kandahar

Kandahar is one of the world's great sports clubs, founded in 1924 by British skiers in the Swiss resort of Mürren. Almost a century later, with more than 1400 international members, the club is more active than ever, training, encouraging and supporting young racers, providing race training for adults and bringing its members together by organising races and social events in Mürren and London. The founding goal of Kandahar was to raise the standard of British skiing and achieve official recognition of alpine ski racing alongside the established Nordic disciplines of cross-country skiing and ski jumping. This was achieved by hosting the first Alpine World Championships in Mürren in 1931, and Great Britain sent the first British team to the Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936, led by Peter Lunn. From that day on, many leading British racers were members of the Kandahar. Kandahar is not only the third largest city in Afghanistan, a Swiss shoe brand with a long tradition, but also a race in Arlberg that made skiing history.
