Grieder Bon Génie

In 1889, Adolf Grieder opened the silk house Grieder & Co. at Fraumünsterstrasse 8 in Zurich, where he sold silk fabrics, lace and velvet. The business soon moved to Börsenstrasse and expanded into ladies’ and men’s ready-to-wear clothing with its own tailoring shop. In 1913, the shop, which was already nicknamed ‘Seiden-Grieder’, moved to the new ‘Peterhof’ building on Paradeplatz. Grieder became the leading fashion shop in Zurich and organised its own fashion shows. A branch was opened in Lucerne and in 1927 a branch in St. Moritz. In 1972, Grieder was sold to the Brunschwig family business in Geneva, which also owned the ‘BonGénie’ shops. Adolphe Brunschwig had opened his first shop in Geneva in 1891 and his first branch in Lausanne in 1903. From 1947, the Brunschwig family focussed on selling fashion. Today, the Geneva-based family owns seventeen shops throughout Switzerland. With the move from the Grieder building on Paradeplatz to the new premises on Bahnhofstrasse and the change of name to Bongénie, the fashion group opens a flagship store at a prime address in Zurich in February 2025.
