In 1826, Philippe Suchard opened a chocolate factory in Serrières in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel. His success only began in 1842 when Frederick William IV, king of Prussia, made a very large order, triggering a boom for Suchard. For the packaging of his chocolate, he chose the unusual colour purple, which today is the color of the famous Milka chocolate, created in 1901 (seventeen years after Philippe Suchard’s death). Today, the Suchard factory and brand name belong to Kraft Foods and Milka is their best-selling brand of milk chocolate.
