Brauerei Wädenswil

The Wädenswil brewery near Zurich was founded by Heinrich Rusterholz in 1833. From 1894, the beer was shipped across Lake Zurich on motor boats, steamboats and barges. By the early 20th century, it had become a major brewery with its own apartments to house its workers. In 1929, the Wädenswil brewery bought the Elm mineral spring company and introduced the iconic “Elmer Citro” lemon-flavoured soft drink in the 1930s. The original Wädenswil brewery closed in 1990, but its tradition is carried on today by Wädi-Brau-Huus AG.
