Ernst Emil Schlatter

Ernst Emil Schlatter was born in 1883 and studied the craft of lithography in Zurich and Stuttgart. He returned to his native city of Zurich around 1910 to work for Wolfensberger Lithographic Institute (Graphische Anstalt Wolfensberger), where he introduced several important innovations in the application of stone lithography to poster art. Between 1917 and 1920, Schlatter taught lithography and landscape painting at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts (Kunstgewerbeschule). In 1920 he moved to Uttwil and started working as a freelance graphic designer and artist. With his painterly style, Schlatter produced some of the best Swiss landscape and travel posters.
