Otto Morach

Otto Morach was born in Solothurn in 1887 and died in Zurich in 1973.

After training as a secondary school teacher, Otto Morach went abroad from 1909 to 1914 to study painting in Munich and then in Paris, where he witnessed the development of Cubism and Futurism. After the outbreak of war, he returned to Switzerland to work as a teacher and painter. During those years, he developed an independent force of expression in his art. From 1919 to 1953, he taught applied painting at the Zurich School of Design. Morach was influenced by Cubism, Dadaism and Bauhaus, eventually arriving at an abstract style. He worked in various areas of art and the applied arts and also created murals, mosaics and stained-glass windows.
