Lora Lamm
LORA LAMM was born in Arosa in 1928. After studying graphic design at the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1946 to 1951 and gaining her first agency experience, she worked at the Boggeri and Motta studios in 1953. In 1954 she joined the advertising department of the department stores’ “La Rinascente”, where she became studio manager in 1958 and at the same time a freelancer at Upim. Since 1963 she was back in Zurich and lived with her partner Frank C. Thiessing. Lora received significant individual commissions from Italian, American, German and Swiss companies. She won prizes at the VI Swiss Packaging Competition, had numerous exhibitions of her work in Germany and Switzerland and was honoured in 1965 for ‘Best Swiss Posters’. Lora Lamm lived her last years in a retirement home in Zurich and died in spring 2025 at the ripe old age of 98..
The Federal Office of Culture awards the Swiss Grand Prix Design 2015 to Lora Lamm. With its choice, the Federal Design Commission emphasises ‘the outstanding and pioneering significance’ of the prizewinner.
