Edgar Küng
After studying graphics and design at the Lucerne School of Arts and Crafts, Edgar Küng, born in 1926, founded his own studio for advertising and graphics in Lucerne. In 1990, he sold the studio to an international agency and founded a new company.
Edgar Küng, a Lucerne advertising designer who won several international awards, once rightly said that ‘the poster is the greatest possible condensation of the message’ and he knew what he was talking about: his posters for the Geneva Motor Show, for example, were regarded as groundbreaking.
Throughout his life, Küng was also committed to major projects in Lucerne. For example, he was a mentor to Emmanuel Cattani, the architect of the first KKL design. In a local newspaper article on the 25th anniversary of the Culture & Convention Centre Lucerne KKL last year, Küng, who was still in top form despite his advanced age, said: ’The change of colour in the concert hall was a big mistake. Now the subtle interplay between colours and emotional experience is missing.’ ‘Edgar Küng died on 22 February 2024 at the age of 97.
