Iwan Edwin Hugentobler
Iwan Edwin Hugentobler was born in Degersheim in 1886 and died in Zurich in 1972.
He was a painter and graphic designer.
After studying at the St. Gallen School of Applied Arts, I.E. Hugentobler became a designer at an embroidery company in St. Gallen and taught at the St. Gallen School of Applied Arts between 1915 and 1920. He was particularly interested in depicting horses and received further training from the animal painter Adolf Thomann. Hugentobler became known as a painter of horses and an illustrator of documentary images relating to military themes. He mainly designed posters featuring horses and equestrian sports.
