Ernst Hodel

The painter Ernst Hodel jr. was born in Lucerne in 1881. He studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and travelled to Paris and Milan. After the death of his father, who was also a well-known painter, he returned to Lucerne. He painted mainly landscapes, animals and religious genre scenes. He created landscape murals in the railway stations of Lucerne, Berne and Basel and finished his father’s monumental work, the collection of large-scale panoramic views of the Alps in the Alpineum in Lucerne. He died in Lucerne in 1955.
