Walter Diethelm

Walter Diethelm was born in 1913 in Zurich. From 1928 to 1932 he apprenticed as a graphic designer at a Zurich advertising agency, then in 1932/1933 he took courses at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zurich and abroad (in Paris as a student of Fernand Léger). Until 1939 he worked at an advertising agency in Berne. He then worked as Art Director for large printing companies for ten years before opening his own studio in Zurich in 1950. A very versatile artist, Diethelm designed books, logos, exhibition stands and posters for cultural events. His reputation spread beyond Switzerland’s borders and he received numerous national and international awards.
